Cycling is a very common form of exercise as some people use it to commute instead of taking the public transport. This short exercise have great impact on our health and life! Hop onto your bicycles and start riding away!
Benefits of Cycling!
Stanford University School of Medicine researchers asked sedentary insomnia sufferers to cycle for 20-30 minutes every other day. The results came back to the time required for them to fall asleep was reduced by half, and sleep time increased by almost an hour.
“Exercising outside exposes you to daylight,” explains Professor Jim Horne from Loughborough University’s Sleep Research Centre. “This helps get your circadian rhythm back in sync, and also rids your body of cortisol, the stress hormone that can prevent deep, regenerative sleep.” In other words, just by cycling you can get better sleep!
When you are cycling, it triggers more nerve cells to fire. All these neurons light up and heighten the production of proteins which help promote formation of new brain cells. By cycling you can actually double or triple the production of neurons, building your brain. You also release neurotransmitters (the messengers between your brain cells) where they can communicate with each other for better, faster functioning.
“Exercise works as well as psychotherapy and antidepressants in the treatment of depression, maybe better,” says James Blumenthal, PhD, professor of behavioral medicine in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. A recent study analyzing 26 years of research finds that even just some exercise—as little as 20 to 30 minutes a day—can prevent depression over the long term.
In other words, cycling can have positive impact on your mood, relieve anxiety, increase stress resistance, and even banish the blues.
